Gold and bronze medals for our team at the Snow Sports State Championships.
Seven girls qualified for the 2014 NSW State Championships in Snow Sports in Thredbo from 28-31 August and one girl represented the school at NSW-ACT Cross Country Ski event in Perisher on 26 August.
The entire team performed amazingly well on technical, difficult and challenging courses. Cora McCloskey performed outstandingly to win gold in both the Skier Cross and GS events, crowning her as a two-time state champion in a very competitive field. Her team mates Nicola Pitt and Sarah Scaffidi performed brilliantly to ensure St Catherine's took bronze in the Boardercross event. The team have qualified for the National Championships in the Alpine event. A huge achievement for the girls. Clementine Mobbs competed in Division 4 of the snowboard events and qualified for the Nationals with a fine 9th place in the GS event. This division is extremely tough and Clem did very well. The skiers also shone. Saskia Ferster competed in three events and took an individual bronze medal in the Alpine and Moguls. Saskia and team mate Sophie Scaffidi qualified for the National Championships in the Moguls, and Saskia finished 4th overall in Skier Cross event. Snow Sports captain Samantha Dawson put in strong performances in two events to claim 5th in both and qualify easily for nationals. She was within one second of the winner in both. All seven St Catherine's girls that competed in State Championships have qualified for the nationals in two weeks time. An unbelievable result. Claudia Freern was our only competitor in the Cross Country Skiing NSW-ACT Championships. Her pre-race practice paid off and after being amongst the top competitors at the beginning she eventually took a fine 17th place.
