Mighty athletes big score

St Catherine's mighty athletics team has moved further up the IGSSA athletics ladder this year to claim 4th place.

This was the first time our steely eyed, talented and highly motivated group of athletic St Catherine's students contested Division 1, the top IGSSA division, after shooting up to 5th place last year out of 27 independent schools.

At last week's Carnival we improved our score by 47 points and not only consolidated our right to stay among the top schools, but our athletes sent a clear message that we will be knocking on the doors of the top three next year.

It was our most successful carnival ever yet three of our very talented athletes were not able to attend. Imagine where we would have finished if they had been available!

• Manon Wilson contested the cross country nationals in Western Australia
• Holly Berkelman our co-captain was sitting an HSC exam
• Nici Parry was unfortunately injured during the warm up at Thursday night’s heats.

Nici's injury really flattened the team on Thursday as she is a respected and highly talented member of the team. However on Friday morning at the team meeting the girls decided to dig deep and give that bit extra for Nici and all the hard work that had gone into six months of training.

And while we are congratulating our brilliant sports stars I’d like to say ‘well done’ to our Junior School athletics team which finished 3rd at IPSHA on Tuesday. It was a brilliant result that heralds exciting times ahead.
