On Friday 16 June, the St Catherine's prefects hosted an afternoon tea for prefects from schools around Sydney. It was a very successful afternoon, with school leaders from a range of 14 schools all meeting to make new connections and learn more about leadership. It was a great opportunity to get to know and network with other like-minded people, sharing ideas and aspirations.
The theme for the afternoon was leadership and the future, and we were lucky enough to welcome Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to speak to us and impart valuable advice. Prime Minister Turnbull spoke to us all about the fundamental characteristics needed in a successful leader, such as respect, integrity and good communication skills. His insightful words definitely resonated with all of the young leaders, and I can confidently say that many of us were even more inspired to work hard and make the most of each opportunity that may come our way in the future. PM Turnbull was generous enough to offer his time afterwards to answer any questions that the prefects had, and stayed on to take photos and to talk individually with many of the students.
Overall, the afternoon was a great success, and we finished it off with a hotly contested game of Kahoot! Special thanks to Victoria Braithwaite (Enrichment Prefect) for her hard work in organising the afternoon and ensuring that it ran so smoothly, as well as all the St Cath's staff involved who were pivotal to the afternoon's success.
