Success in Thredbo

St Catherine's snowsports team made a winning start to their winter season at the Sydney Interschools Championships held in Thredbo on 8 - 11 July.

Reigning champion snowboarder Cora McCloskey of Year 9, showed her talent and potential for big things in the future with impervious performances in both slalom and cross to take two gold medals against stiff opposition. Year 8 snowboarder Nicola Pitt put some solid runs on the board to secure a state championships place.

Versatile skier Saskia Ferster of Year 7, took home medals from several disciplines and qualified for state championships in three events along with team mates Amelia Staines and Francesca Heyko-Porebski of Year 7 and April O’Neill and Mia Clark of Year 8.

Sammy Dawson of Year 11, St Catherine’s snowsports captain and recent Australian representative also performed outstandingly to qualify for state championships.

Overall, all the girls performed brilliantly for the School. Everyone had fun and achieved so much in the four days of racing. An enormous thank you to the parents for all their hard work with transport, coaching, equipment and moral support.

We look forward to seeing the girls compete at the state championships in August where Australian championship representation is on the line.
