Rowing reaches new high at Head of the River

Our rowing team had their most successful ever Head of the River on Saturday - winning gold, two silver and a bronze. Last year was our previous best when we won two medals. This represents a massive improvement for our rowing team and a fantastic reward for the hard work from our rowing girls and coaches.

The Year 9 double of Katarina Saravanos and Bianca Horrell put in a great performance to take silver. This was immediately followed by our Year 10 four of Abbey Gibbs, Isabella Plaisted, May Pinnegar, Aisling Harrison and India Powell taking an impressive gold.

In a very close race the Year 8 crew of Amelia Cooper, Imogen Spence, Nicole Chong, Chloe Munro and Lilli O'Driscoll claimed silver. The Senior four of Sophie Breznik, Tilly Hunt (rowing captain), Catherine Johnson, Tilly Borthwick and Imogen Heywood finished the day in style, securing bronze.

To have medals in each year group from 8-12 is very special and shows the strength across the entire rowing program. Our rowers will take a well-deserved break until they start preseason training in Term 3. We will run our dedicated Learn to Row Program in Term 3 for all new rowers from Years 7-12. Get Going, Get Rowing!

A big thanks to Dr Townsend, Ms Guy, Mrs McCullah and numerous staff who were there to cheer on the rowers.

Thank you to all the parents, led so well by Mr John Richardson and for the dedication and talent of the girls who keep St Cath's rowing on an upward trajectory.

Mr Richard Coakley
Head of Rowing
