Rowing Launch 2015-16

‚ÄčLast Friday many students, parents and staff welcomed in the new season for our rowers. It was a beautiful night, even in windy conditions the magnificent views were enjoyed by all. The food and decorations were fantastic thanks to Marilyn Rickard, Chloe Carr and the Community Relations department.

Gearoid Towey started the evening with a welcome address and then the captains were announced by the previous years leadership group. This was followed by an address from John (JR) Richardson who so ably leads our parent support group. He also held a Q and A with Tim McLaren who is the UTS elite coach, this was insightful and full of humour.
Then our two newest boats were named. Our quad "Grace Lindsey" named after a student from 2013 was so entrenched in our rowing program from the moment it started way back in 2011. Although Grace only ever rowed out of Drummoyne Rowing Club, her legacy will live on through this boat housed and rowed out of UTS. Grace passed away in December 2013.
The new eight, fully funded by generous rowing parents, is a magnificent boat named "Dr Julie Townsend". It is significant that our first ever eight is named after the Headmistress who had the vision for rowing at St Catherine's, and has continually supported the sport from day one.
It was a beautiful launch night with the girls, parents and staff coming together to enjoy a meal and many heartfelt speeches. The evening closed with Dr Townsend thanking everyone for attending in particular our girls for working so hard, the parents for their on going support and the staff for all their work.
A great evening was had by all! Get a glimpse of the night here.
