The devastating earthquake in Nepal has shocked the world and holds particular significance to our girls who have just returned from a Service Education trip in some of the worst affected areas.
Nepal is a nation close to St Catherine's heart - annually from 2010 our girls have trekked the Himalayas, volunteered at the Mitrataa Centre and worked with children rescued from human trafficking at Asha Nepal.
Service Education Coordinator Ms Hatch said "We've developed close bonds with the beautiful people there and have come to know them as friends. They are the happiest and most positive people I have ever met and they have taught the St Catherine’s community so much."
Even before the tragedy, life for the Nepalese was difficult due to the lack of resources, education and a low national wage. The people are in more need now than ever and we must respond quickly.
Fortunately our friends are safe, but so many have lost their lives and homes. At St Catherine's we encourage the girls to be global citizens and strive to help others where they can.
After assembly this week the girls collected gold coin donations and a BBQ has been organised for Thursday 7 May to raise more funds.
Please help by donating to organisations who are trained in responding to natural disasters such as UNICEF and the Red Cross.
