Positive Psychology in 5

Ms Turnbull Brown (Director of Positive Psychology) and I were very excited to present at the recent PESA (Positive Education Schools Association) conference last week. The conference was sold out, with attendees from overseas, interstate and New South Wales.

As a school that has had a focus on student well-being and positive psychology for over seven years, it was wonderful to share with other schools the success we have had with our Academic Care program. The presentation was met with great interest.

We heard from a number of speakers at the event and have returned to school with some exciting ideas. These include: building and broadening staff well-being with positive psychology skills; looking at the appreciative enquiry model; and embedding positive psychology across other areas of the school. Ms Turnbull Brown will begin positive psychology interventions with particular students and we will look at the importance of grit in the transition of students from Year 6 to Year 7. We are also about to introduce Positive Psychology in 5 - five short snappy training sessions for staff and students on a weekly basis.

The conference was a great opportunity to showcase our school and we look forward to sharing more with you as the year unfolds.
