From 14 December 2017 - 4 January 2018, I went on a homestay trip to Osaka in Japan. Despite my initial nervousness, I found it to be one of the best experiences of my life. Not only did my Japanese improve substantially, but I also became so much more independent and made lifelong friends. My host family was incredibly generous, and took care of me like I was their own.
While I was there, I attended Ohtani Girls Senior High School where my host sister was in Year 10. The teachers there gave me a very warm welcome, and the students did not hesitate to say hello and make me feel at home.
More highlights of my trip were going to Universal Studios Japan, spending my birthday, Christmas, and New Year's in another country, and taking day trips to other places like Kyoto, Kobe, and Nara.
Learning about Japanese culture was really interesting, especially how their schooling and transport systems work, and their New Year and Christmas traditions.
