Lizzie Welborn crowned Australia's top youth athlete

Lizzie Welborn’s star burns bright as she has won the Surf Life Saving Australia Youth Surf Sport Athlete of the Year, a great acknowledgement of her many years of hard work and natural talent for this very difficult sport.

Unlike most of her athletic peers Lizzie Welborn is not one to set goals, preferring instead to concentrate on the next session, and the next race, rather than strive for specific results as she mentions in a recent Surf Life Saving New South Wales article.

“To be honest I haven’t really thought about any goals I want to achieve this season. Like many people I always wanted to qualify for the Nutri-Grain Series, so to achieve that is very special.”

“My aim is to do some solid training and just compete to the best of my ability and see how I go. Outside that I want to continue to compete against the open athletes in as many events as possible and continue to push myself” she said.
