Language Week

‚ÄčThank you to everyone who helped make Language Week a huge success - full of entertainment, excitement and charitable events.

The week started off with the deli offering meals from all over the world. There were dishes from India, Asia, Australia and America. At the counter, students could order items in different languages.
A wonderful assembly was held on Tuesday with the MCs speaking in French and Spanish. The school was enthralled with interviews from our international exchange students, who discussed what life is like in their home countries. Girls from Argentina, France and Germany bravely performed in front of the school. We sang the hymn in Japanese, did the bible reading in Latin and said grace in French. It was great to see the relationships St Catherine’s has cultivated all over the globe.
Throughout the week, the Research Centre hosted fun events. There was a salsa dancing class, story-reading in different languages, international newspapers and magazines, a short film series about life in countries such as Italy and Germany and the Foreign Film club screened a movie in Japanese.
On Thursday the promise of churros had girls running from their classrooms to buy the traditional Spanish delicacy. The stall, run by the Year 8 Spanish students, was a huge success raising over $250 for World Vision. In chapel, we sang hymns in Japanese and said the prayer in Spanish.
Languages Week is so important as it introduces us to diverse cultures and amazing, fun experiences.  The language students and staff are already looking forward to planning unique and interesting activities for next year.
