Chinese Spectacular

The Chinese Spectacular was a night full of fun, excitement, laughter, and a great learning experience that transformed our perspectives on Chinese culture. I loved learning about everybody's experiences, through their involvement in Chinese. It was such a wonderful night. Miranda Myles, Year 8

In late September, the girls from the Year 8 Chinese class performed at the annual Sydney Chinese Language Spectacular. The evening was a showcase of musical acts that coincided with the 2018 Mid-Autumn Festival, and featured over 800 students. It was a great display of Chinese song and dance, highlighting a prestigious music ensemble from Hangzhou, China. The event was organised by the Confucius Institute at UNSW and the Chinese Language Teachers Association of NSW. The night featured speakers including Hon Matt Thistlethwaite MP, who spoke about  the importance of learning a language at school having a positive impact on education and future opportunities. The girls were able to use their Chinese language speaking skills as they sang the Chinese national anthem and versions of Waltzing Matilda and I Still Call Australia Home

The girls would like to thank Ms Guo and Miss Centner for leading the excursion, and the languages department for organising it.
