The St Catherine's Band Showcase on Wednesday 13 June illustrated the musical talents of over 100 girls across Years 3 to 12. The showcase included performances by our concert bands, jazz bands, rock band and associated chamber ensembles.
We were delighted to welcome back leading USA conductor, Associate Professor of Music and Artistic Director of the Sydney Conservatorium's Wind Symphony, Dr John Lynch as our special guest. Dr Lynch has more than 25 years' teaching and performance experience and has led some of the finest university band programs in the United States. Our ensemble, symphonic winds, were incredibly fortunate to take part in a brief but intense one-hour workshop with Dr Lynch prior to the concert.
A particular highlight was our rock band's first live performance of Don't Look Back in Anger by the English band Oasis and the newly established double reed ensemble's performance of Walking Tune arranged by David Bussik. I would like to say a particular thank you to our music prefect, Ally Bradley and band captain, Kate Geha who thoroughly entertained our audience throughout the evening. Ally shared an inspiring insight into why she decided to choose HSC music and the positive experiences she has had as a result.
It was an exciting, joyful and entertaining evening, which would not have been possible without the dedication of the girls in every ensemble, the music staff, tutors and backstage crew.
