The St Catherine's Band Showcase last Wednesday evening presented the musical talents of over 109 girls across Years 3 to 12. The showcase included performances by our concert bands, jazz bands, rock band and associated chamber ensembles.
We were delighted to welcome back Dr John Lynch as our special guest. Dr Lynch is a leading USA conductor, Associate Professor of Music and Artistic Director of the Sydney Conservatorium's Wind Symphony. He has more than 25 years of teaching and performance experience and has led some of the finest university band programs in the United States.
Symphonic Winds were incredibly fortunate to have a one-hour workshop prior to the concert with Dr Lynch, rehearsing El Camino Reel by Alfred Reed.
"The workshop with Dr Lynch was very informative and fun. We learned different breathing exercises to warm up and rehearsal techniques for large ensembles. Band showcase is a great opportunity for everyone to get more performance experience which helps to build our confidence. Overall the night went well and everyone did a really good job performing and I would like to thank Dr Lynch again for coming to St Catherine's and teaching us." Isabella Pinter, Band Captain.
I would like to congratulate all the girls on a wonderful evening!
