Art competitions and our new art assistant

As a new year begins at St Catherine's the visual arts department is encouraging students to enter art competitions. Challenging students to explore creative ideas and to 'step up, step out' following the prefect 'suso' theme.

Last year while she was in Year 12, Indivi Bacon entered two art competitions. She was a finalist in the Belle ArtStart Art Prize for her painting Rabbitohs and the Waverley Art Prize, winning in her category for her print Another Time. Indivi is currently working in the St Catherine's art department as art assistant and has taken the role of art competition coordinator, enthusiastically guiding students to follow in her footsteps. She is also studying at Sydney University doing a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Bachelor of Advanced Studies.

"Art competitions forced me to push myself artistically and academically, as they required me to write descriptive reflections on my work. They also provided me with great advantages when applying to art school and scholarship opportunities post high school."

Art competitions coming up

Waverley Youth Art Prize submissions close Friday 24 May. This year's theme is 'POP your Culture'.

Operation Art 2019 closing May 31.
