Amelia Cooper of Year 9 is the first St Catherine's rower to be awarded the female BMG aviation JB Sharpe series U18 scholarship for her efforts in her first two seasons of rowing, she also won the point score for the U16 event. The JB Sharp series involves a unique format that requires girls to compete on different courses, with different conditions and crew combinations each regatta. It's a great way for athletes to gain some extra racing experience in the off season.
Although she has been rowing for less than two years, Amelia has already shown commitment and dedication beyond her years. She has had the highest attendance over the 2017-2018 season and her hard work has earned her a seat with the crew of our Year 10 8.
With an amazing result, Milly drove her crew from the 7 seat to win the bronze medal in the prestigious Head of the River. It was the first time St Cath's had raced an 8 in the regatta! She went on to perform very well in the nationals helping the St Cath's U17 8 reach the A Final, even though she had just turned 14 years old.
Milly is part of our rowing squad that is going from strength to strength. The team is currently in preseason training and our Year 7s are competing in our learn-to-row program. They are all looking forward to racing in Terms 4 and and Term 1 next year.
