Outdoor education

Learning extends far beyond the classroom at St Catherine’s. Girls from Year 4 to Year 11 push their personal boundaries in a supportive and nurturing environment through our Outdoor Education Program. Powerful learning opportunities are provided through experiences such as canoeing down the Hawkesbury River, horse riding and Duke of Edinburgh award expeditions.

Vibrant experiences in outdoor settings

Outdoor education provides broad, challenging and vibrant experiences. Girls are encouraged to understand their identity, their community and their relationship with the natural world through physical adventures and guided discovery. The program helps every student develop and it promotes leadership, strong values, resilience and independence.

The program also gives students the opportunity to challenge personal boundaries in a supportive and nurturing environment. It may involve a physically challenging activity which deepens their understanding and sense of place in Sydney, or it could be simply spending the night away from home. In outdoor education, the combination of learning through participation creates a powerful learning experience.

Outdoor education is underpinned by positive psychology principles and the experiences are designed to develop and challenge students in ways that cannot be duplicated in the classroom.

Girls experience a strong sense of achievement and are empowered to strive for the best in all they pursue."
