Global citizenship

To gain an understanding of global issues and cultural diversity, the girls have opportunities to study languages and live in a host country. Becoming good global citizens means our students grow in cultural awareness, share ideas with their peers and develop the knowledge and skills to live well internationally.

Language skills

The school is passionate about providing the very best education even beyond its walls. Studying language and culture at school is ideal preparation for future employment opportunities such as working overseas or as part of a multi-national team.

In Senior School, students can study either French or Chinese in Year 7, providing experience of a core European or Asian language. In Year 8, German, Spanish and Japanese are also available. We encourage all girls to study two languages.

International exchange

In Years 10 and 11, girls can take part in exchanges to Germany, France, Japan or Spain to enhance their foreign language study and cultural appreciation.

Students who take part find the experience immensely enriching, helping them develop a global perspective. They also enjoy studying a different curriculum and making enduring friendships.

During the April holidays a group of 22 girls and three teachers set off for a Japanese adventure to Tokyo and Osaka. Sumaiya Rahman and Gabriella Sasvary let us in on all the excitement here.

CULTURal exchange

At St Catherine's we aim to give students an opportunity to gain an understanding of international issues and to discover diverse cultures.  We open doors overseas enabling our girls to connect with peers across cultural boundaries.

We offer a structured, 5-week cultural exchange program for Year 9 girls with distinguished independent schools such as the Hereford Cathedral School in Herefordshire, UK and St Philip the Apostle School in Argentina.

Girls spend five weeks during July and August hosting an exchange ‘sister’, who attends St Catherine’s with her during term time. Australian girls then travel to either Argentina or England in August -September to spend five weeks as a guest in their host sister’s home and attend their school. This reciprocal program cultivates cultural awareness, an international perspective and long-lasting global relationships.
