Academic care forms an integral part of each girl's education from Kindergarten through to Year 12. In a nurturing environment, girls form a network of relationships across the school community and strive for excellence in learning. The academic care program closely monitors each girl’s progress and supports her development throughout her school years.
Academic care is the enhancement of student learning, well-being and resilience in ways that are sympathetic to each girl's needs and embedded in her learning experiences.
The School's approach to academic care is underpinned by the principles of positive psychology. It focuses on three core goals - building mental toughness, strong relationships and character strengths.
These goals are achieved in two ways; through academic care in the curriculum and academic care sessions. In each class our staff encourage students to develop their unique potential in a nurturing classroom environment. Academic care sessions focus on specific skills to address core goals, using programs such as a resilience program.
Each Senior School student’s classroom teacher or Year Mentor are key contacts for girls and parents to discuss academic and cocurricular activities. The mentoring system has been proved to maximise learning outcomes and it enables girls to challenge themselves to achieve their best. Year Mentors generally lead their year groups for two years and develop a deep understanding of each girl's needs and potential.
Digital citizenshipTo help navigate the ever-expanding online world, girls are taught digital citizenship. Safe and effective use of social networking is a focus for all ages and is revisited every year in an age-appropriate manner to help students manage their digital footprint.
St Catherine's girls are encouraged to participate in a comprehensive service education program. Each year group contributes to a chosen charity donating goods, raising funds and promoting awareness in the community. Girls work on local, national and international projects, with opportunities to volunteer abroad.
In the Junior School, the Student Representative Council organises fund raising events each term for a charity chosen by the students. The K-6 service learning program allows the girls the opportunity to reach out to our local community and make a difference in the lives of others.
