Welcome to St Catherine’s

We want our girls to be women of character, imbued with the moral and emotional strength to deal with life's challenges and rebound from its setbacks.”

Dr Julie Townsend, Headmistress

St Catherine’s is Australia’s oldest independent, Anglican girls’ school and we develop critical and reflective thinkers who will shape society as outstanding women and leaders. We are a Christian school and educate girls for life.

Our K-12 day and boarding students learn in world class facilities framed by ancient magnolia trees. We are truly non-selective and our students come from all backgrounds and faiths.

St Catherine's is a pioneer in developing its one-to-one ICT for Learning and Positive Psychology programs.

In 2017 our HSC results included seven students being mentioned on the NESA All-Rounders list for achieving 90% or above in 10 or more units of study.  In addition, three of our students were described by NESA as Top Achievers, receiving 3rd in the State for Spanish Continuers and Physics and 16th in the State for Mathematics General 2.  St Catherine's also received 151 acknowledgements on the NSW NESA Distinguished Achievers List for students who achieved a mark of 90% or above in one or more of their HSC subjects.

The School also received one OnSTAGE nomination (Drama for an Individual Performance),  an ART EXPRESS nomination in Visual Arts and seven Shape 2017 nominations in Design & Technology. These excellent HSC results from 2017 reflect the breadth of achievement and the excellent educational opportunities offered at St Catherine's School.

Our Christian foundation has a profound influence on the way we educate our students. Each girl is infinitely valuable and unique, and is encouraged to nurture and develop her God-given talents and abilities. Meaningful learning is built on strong, caring relationships.

A wonderful place to learn and grow

Our girls are encouraged to strive for excellence supported by a nurturing environment built on a network of relationships across the School community. Our Academic Care program is underpinned by the principles of positive psychology which closely monitors and supports each girl on her unique education journey.

St Catherine’s boarders have been at the heart of the School since its foundation and the girls live a homely, inclusive environment where integrity, trust and responsibility are encouraged. Our boarding community is deliberately small and each girl has a private space in a beautifully decorated dorm that includes a study area and a kitchen for snacks. When study time is over the girls enjoy age-appropriate cultural, sporting and entertainment activities around Sydney’s iconic city centre and nearby beaches and parks.

I love living in the boarding house, as we have a lot of support with everything. I especially love having so many girls around me who are just like sisters."
